Doh! Shoot me, I'm stupid!

It's not the getElementPosition that causes problem. The coordinates  
are correct. My problem occurs when modifying the DOM using the  
coordinates on the overlay. Since the new - absolutely positioned -  
element gets inserted just before the image, it's offsets are now  
relative to the container and that's why it shifts.

Looks like I got some re-factoring to do.
