I was about to say the same, the dot syntax immediately looks very useful to me.

I agree, I think this would be a lesser used feature. Having said
that, I think it is maybe not too hard to implement, simply parse
{...} as a valid format, look up the argument set the format string to
its contents, and proceed as normally.
Apart from the above, +1 for me.
