I think git.maemo.org should be accessed through SSL (https) afaik.
Anyway, https access is broken in git.maemo.org (SSL certificate has
expired), so I have to access the repository using environment variable
GIT_SSL_NO_VERIFY=1
Anyway, if this doesn't work for you, I'm maintaining a (not so
updated) clone in gitorious. See the gitorious modest project.
