After quite a bit of prodding from some of you, I've finally finished my "Top 10" records of 1998. Overall I think '98 was one of the best years for me musically. Where '97 was ruled by Guided By Voices pretty much single handedly, '98 was ruled by the letter M - Modest Mouse, Mogwai, Mitch Mitchell (Terrifying Experience), Magoo, Murder City Devils, (A) Minor Forest, and Mercury Rev. I had a hard time this year whenever someone would ask me what I was currently listening to, cuz I could only come up with the "M" bands. This is a short list. I don't think 10 is enough. But rules are rules. My "real" list will be in the next issue of Fresh Cow Pie (due out in February). If you're lucky, I'll put it up at the Barnyard http://fm-net.com/farmerpsbarnyard/ ) real soon. 1. June Panic - 'Fall of Atom: a thesis on entropy' - Secretly Canadian 2. Robert Pollard - 'Waved Out' - Matador 3. Mercury Rev - 'Deserter's Songs' - V2 4. Mogwai - 'Kicking A Dead Pig' - Jetset 5. Neutral Milk Hotel - 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea' - Merge 6. Danko Jones - s/t - Sonic Unyon 7. Kleenex Girl Wonder - 'Graham Smith is the Coolest Person Alive' - MOC 8. Lungfish - 'Artificial Horizons' - Dischord 9. Murder City Devils - 'Empty Bottles Broken Hearts' - Sub Pop 10. Sunny Day Real Estate - 'How It Feels to Be Something On' - Sub Pop My "real" list will be a LOT more in depth. You guys wanted 10, so I gave you 10. The author of this list reserves the right to to change his mind at any given moment. I'm off to my sister's Xmas concert. I'm sure that'll be the concert of the year. Actually, I only saw one concert this year - June Panic. Terrifying Experience in Chicago doesn't count, cuz I was passed out on the roof of Danny's house. Oh yeah, I saw the Zen Mothers last Thursday. They sucked hardcore though. I'd rather listen to Garth. Happy Festivus, Farmer Paul
