I can tell the whole Isaac/Rape discussion is going to be around for awhile,
whether its proven right or wrong or what, and i'm not sure what to think
about all of that.
HOWEVER, i am going to be the first person to attempt discussing a different
topic, because i dont want to read strictly this thread in everything for the
next god-knows-how-long.

A little while ago i was driving around late at night with my girlfriend down
one of these in-the-middle-of-nowhere roads, and 'custom concern' came on the
mix tape, and she said "i think one of the reasons i like modest mouse so much
is 'cause none of their songs are really about love...." and i didnt
necessarily like that coming from my girlfriend, but i did find it kind of
interesting. None of their songs really ARE about love, and thats really
something of a rare thing. Whether in celebrating or scoffing at it, most
bands do seem to center a large percentage of their stuff over relationships.
I know people are now going to find about 100 exceptions to this statement, (I
can think of 'trailer trash' to an extent, right off the bat) and i havent
gone through their discography to check every song, but off the top of my head
i think its worth noting. Definitely their themes seem to stray from the
typical in most songs..... when you look at music, disillusionment and
disenfranchisement is generally portrayed in the way of relationships, but
there is very little (with modest mouse the shining exception) that sing about
it in the way of strip-malls or dead-end jobs. Ennui is so diverse that
sometimes it seems to get so pigeonholed with the romantic interest who left
you to mope. And still, these are just a few of the topics they tackle,
anyhow.

i dont know if thats discussion worthy or not, but i think we do need a
respite from the rape thing, at least so it doesnt monopolize list discussion.
