I find it so wonderful that we are all coming out of the cheesy closet and
proclaiming our true roots in music. In the eighties you would never hear me
admit that I had Captain and Tenille's Greatest Hits on cassette, as I was
blaring "Love will keep us together" while delivering pizzas in Las Vegas.
Steely Dan's Decade CD is in heavy rotation in our home any time that it
rains. Hall & Oates "Sarah Smile" is one of the best. Adam & the Ants is
required for housecleaning. "Eyes of a Stranger" by the Payolas STILL turns
me on.
Now that I'm older, I can accept that I love these songs without worry.
A tradition happens every Christmas eve at my uncle's house. He breaks out
the albums, we move the furniture, and dance. Albums include Barry Manilow,
Captain & Tenille, the Grease soundtrack, and Tom Jones. One of my favorite
visions is my whole family boogeying to "Kiss" by Tom Jones. Including
Grandpa.
Another fantastic memory is my friend Greg in high school, with purple hair,
singing along to all of the words to "Muskrat Love".
....Can you imagine what our children will be embarassed to admit that they
listened to? Time will only tell.
