Hey. I just saw BTS last night. (Metro Chicago 5.10.99) This was my first time seeing them and I was rather scared of what to expect. You see, the only Built to spill stuff i have is Theres Nothing Wrong With Love and the Normal Years. As much as I love these albums I just havent gotten around to buying their other stuff yet. I was afraid that the majority of the songs they would play would be unrecognizable. And they were. In fact, they only played ONE song that i knew! (Twin Falls) GRRRR.... I was really looking forward to hearing Big Dipper or even Car or Girl or Joyride... However, I was hoping to hear Twin Falls too. So at least that was nice. But I'm not all pessimistic. They put on a great show. The set was really long and filled with some intense "jams". The guy from Caustic Resin was there and came out and played with them too. Oh, and another interesting note; The opening band, the Delusions had Doug Martsch (whome they called 'Skip') come out and sing with them on one of their songs. It was rather pretty. And at the end of of Built To Spill's set members of the Delusions with the guy from Caustic Resin came out and there was this bizarre sequence of band members replacing other band members in midsong. At one moment there was like 5 guitars (bass included) and 2 drummers on stage. At the end it wasn't even built to spill that was on stage. This went on for like 15 minutes. Well. Okay, it would have been a perfectly wonderfull show if only i had bought their other albums sooner. dammit. But Big Dipper is such a great little pop song that has been twisted and turned inside out...why didnt they play it? arg. oh yeah, another note, the very first opening band was called System and Station and i guess their from Wisconsin and are kinda interesting. Shoe-gazerish with some BTS moments and a bit of Modest Mouse guitar sounds too. Yet the vocals were a bit monatonous. I found myself wishing they played mainly instrumental stuff, which would have sounded great. ____________________________________ Get your free full featured email @ http://www.apexmail.com
