So, since there hasn't really been much stuff on topic as of late, (not that
there's anything wrong with that, or that there's much to talk about Mouse
related right now) I thought I would just say what a great time me and my
friends had last night listening to Modest Mouse. A friend of mine was
house-sitting for his Dad, who, by the way, was at a private party in L.A.
watching David Bowie perform, and he had a bunch of us over to the house for
a little get together. He has an awesome house, huge stereo system, speakers
all over the house, built inside the walls. It's cool, you don't even know
where the music is coming from, everything is hidden. So, anyway, we're all
just standing around having a few drinks, a few tokes from the dolphin bong,
and all of a sudden I hear "Have I told ya, have I told ya, have I told ya,
have I told ya.. you could really get it on, you could really get it on..."
ANd the whole room just erupted in a chorus of "Yes, right on... good choice
on the music, Josh" And we're all singing along, having a good time. Then
"Edit the sad parts" came on, and me and this other girl are dancing
together, everyone's having a blast. I tell you, that right there just made
me realize how lucky we are to know such great music, and how we just seem
to have this knowledge of something that so many people don't have. It used
to be frustrating when I would talk about bands, and no one would know what
I'm talking about, but now I'm glad. It's the best music that no one's ever
heard, except those of us who are intelligent enough to seek out something
more than what's crammed down your throats, and it's like our own little
secret. It just makes it that much better, I think. It just made the night
one of those times I'll never forget. And when I'm 75, I'll look back and
remember the little "secret society" and the music we had that elicited such
emotion that nothing else can. It just put me in such a good mood, it
doesn't even matter that I only slept about two hours and then had to get up
and go to work. Anyway, I just wanted to share that with all of you, cause
I know you guys would know exactly what I'm talking about, am I right?
