I went to see Will Oldham and his band play in Baltimore last month. I
had expected it to be a mellow, folky type show like the music on his
albums. But instead it was truly a rock show---fantastic energy
intersperced with quiet moments. I can honestly say that this was one of
the best, if not THE best, show I have ever been to. Oldham is one of the
most amazing talents in music today. The music that night was so alive
and incredible it transcended the lame bar and the crowd of bored
hipsters. i remember leaving with a wonderful, foolish grin on my face.
If anyone has a chance to see him play, go godammit!
the Spinanes: Strand is a subtle, inconspicuous gem of an album. It's the
best thing to listen to late at night lying in bed. Rebecca Gates is also
a fantastic musician. She writes some incredible songs. I don't care for
the new album quite as much as Strand, but it's still nice to listen to.
And now I guess I have to admit my schoolboy crush on Rebecca...
