Queens of the Stone Age features three gentlemen that were at one time in Kyuss (I believe there were some personnel changes in that group, but I don't know them all). Kyuss released four albums, the first of which was pretty weak and trebly. But then the gods of rawk crept down from the heavens and tweaked the bass up, and suddenly they were riffin'. I like their stuff a lot, particularly their last full-length, "And the Circus Leaves Town." Very heavy, but increasing melodic and impressive as their career continued. Kyuss broke up over creative differences, I believe. The singer, John Garcia, went on to record a fabulous EP in a group called Slo Burn, which disintegrated before it was even released. Meanwhile, Josh Homme later formed a trio (which has been since augmented to a quarter and fifth-member soundman) which he dubbed Queens of the Stone Age. It's basically a sound similar to Kyuss, but far more varied in tempo and style. Josh sings now, and his voice is very different than John's. I find myself listening to this album a lot. It's awfully riffy, but well-written and memorable. Noella, are you out there? *phiL* ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
