"Drunks don't get themselves drunk. It's the alcohol!"
Saw a kid with a modest moust t-shirt at Fred Meyer this evening. I was
in the band-aid aisle.
Also had a conversation about nature vs. nurture with this older lady who
talks rather loudly in her cubicle about her politics, re-modeling her
house and how they shouldn't allow pro-choice people into leadership roles
in her Catholic church. She used to be a mountain climber and is now
involved in a bunch of environmental campaigns - stuff like keeping the
ski resorts from salting the mountain and stopping urban sprawl. She's
pretty nice, although she thinks that Sen. McCain is the sort of stand-up
politician that this country needs.
Who knows, maybe McCain is a freakin' god-send. I can only guess about
these people from what other people say. I've got friends in DC now. But
one tells me the stories about Strom Thurman making congressional aides
(women only, however) pull candy "treats" from the front pocket of his
jacket. And some other guy tells me about the stupid things people say
after 10 too many at the local conservative watering hole. Then there's
what these people actually do for a living - pumping out letters to
constituents of a democratic senator, and writing propaganda for a
conservative training center. They don't like their jobs, and for one of
them, it's the first rung on some imaginary ladder that will eventually
lead to something better. I can't claim to understand it.
Politics is beauracracy.
