re: this whole topic of "sexuality' with relation to this notion of "music," has no one on this list heard of the boys of New Wet Kojak? an offshoot of GVSB, mainly, but various cameos abound from many other "sexy" east-coasters, including the always formidable mr. nathan larson on the first album. for those that thought girls against boys were a band obsessed with sex, or a band who just happened to be inherently "sexy" (as is the opinion of most every critic who picked up a pen in re: this band), this is the Girls' answer to what sexy in music really is. and, i first noticed commercials before movies about a year and a half ago in the la-la area of la, ca. it's incredibly annoying, especially since the theater i usually go to (amc - dig those crazy student discounts!) plays the same three to five commercials. the three mainstays are: that "funny" at&t commercial in which the boyfriend goes to a foreign country, and his friend tries to move in on his girlfriend. but thanks to the advances of at&t's supreme communications technology via phone and internet, his friend's plans are foiled! tee-hee! what a gasp! especially the 22nd time! then there's the Lee's Stunt-guy "buddy-lee" commercial, which, spike jonze or no spike jonze, just isn't that enjoyable after the first time. and, of course, as anyone in the la, ca area is probably very familiar with, the ubiquitous la times "get the real story" ads. (how 'bout that bug wrangler!) unfortunately, they've done their job, as they've quite capably ingrained themselves into my consciousness. blah. star
