There was a MULLET at the Get Up Kids show in Chicago. That strikes
me
as incredibly funny...I hope everyone else can see the humor of seeing
something like that at an indie/emo/whatever show. >>
dude its called a fashion mullet. and they're scary indeed.
its like the "its so anti-fashion, its indie! " type deal.
i think the discussion of clothes/stereotypes/etc is really interesting. its
like the unspoken code or something like "oh hey that boy has new balances
and dickies i wonder if he likes the get up kids..."
i know i get flack for being "indie" at the radio station where i work
(wnyu). meanwhile when i went to see the makeup a few months ago i felt like
a freak becos my hair isnt black nor does it look like lego-snap-on hair
(anyone seen hair like this? its SCARY) oh and i dont have bangs.
i admit that to some extent i do look the part (if you look the part you'll
get the job-billy bragg). i think its nyc's influence. here everyone shops
at urban outfitters and such. when i lived in suburbian the only sign of the
music i liked were my band t-shirts and saucony's. now it might be the
dickies jacket with the belle and sebastian pin. but yeah most of my friends
like all sorts of music. its better that way.
