i thought about this myself while trying to conjure up a top 25 of the
decade list, and my personal conclusion is that Slanted And Enchanted is
a better album. Why? i dont know, i just like it more. I think S&E has
damn good lyrics, really good spread styles of music (lorettas scars to
two states), the most heartwarming pavement songs created (here, in the
mouth a desert), really good pop (summer baby, trigger cut). its true
that cr,cr is a better pop album and a good start for new pavement fans
but s&e is accidently more developed. really cr,cr and s&e are slightly
different bands so its different in that respect, but baaah to myself.
Basically these two albums are pavement in their indie prime. westing
was them learning how to dance. wowee zowee is in pavements confusion
era. and the last two are mature rock albums. they're all different. can
we all just say pavement are a great band and dance?
and um yes both the new beck and fiona are good :) i just got them
