Showbox, ALL AGES (w/ bar)
=======================
This show went over incredibly well for being all ages in the
Showbox, and having a small bar for people to drink at. It was really cool
to see the two work together. I can only hope that we get past the large road
block called the "Teen Dance Ordinance" in Seattle. It's prohibited many
shows from happening in this city.
The Dellusions have a lot of old Seattle rock in them, with
the standard 4 piece 2 guitar assult. They are pretty darn loud, and seem
to feed off of Doug Martsch's past musical endevors such as the
Treepeople. This band pretty much just rocks, very sonic, as the
guitar players on each side of the stage switch back and forth between original
numbers. Each has a very defining voice, and probably reminds me more of
post-Doug Martsch Treepeople than anything else mixed in with some delay and
pounding drums. They actually opened up with a song that was almost poppy
for a few minutes, but that quickly faded. They finished a half hour set,
and the short 10 minute break was just enough time to run for a veggie
dog
Running back in, I situated myself right in the center towards
the back, the best possible feed from both speakers. I wish I had a set
list, because it would have been nice to know all of the songs to better
describe the show. They opened with what I believed to be 3 songs off of
"Ultimate Alternative Wavers", their first CD on CZ Records. They also
threw in a couple of numbers from Perfect from now on. Overall I think
they played for about 90 minutes, with a small 5 minute break.
I just remember knowing most the lyrics to their set, aside
from 2 of the 3 covers they played. Doug only wanked guitar solos starting
in the middle of the set, which wasn't that hard to endure. 3 songs
in a row with that extended dance remix ending?, you know the one. I like
the BTS songs that start and stop, with all the power of his amazing songwriting
to just glisten, instead of the wait. They played a Velvet Underground
Cover, and then went into a Love as Laughter cover. They dropped
"Car" in there somewhere and everyone freaked out. I was really psyched
that they didn't play anything from their new album, I am pretty sure that is
the case, but they might have slipped one song in there. Nearing the end
of their set, they played "Built to Spill" which has to be one of my favorite
songs by them, it was executed with the best of fashion. The guitar
player from the Dellusions, the short haired one, was backing up Doug, Brent,
and Scott. BTS ended the set with a 15 minute version of Cortez The Killer
by Neil Young, it was so epic. Huge, winding guitars, perfect. It
was the best Neil Young cover i've ever heard in my life. What a great
set, this is by far the best i've seen them in a long time. They seem to
have come full circle.
of course, you'll probably find some mp3's of this show in the
very near future.
and, you can also listen to this over the web starting today I
