<< What is this "selling out" thing you speak of?

Is that when a band starts to make enough money that
they don't have to live off of ramen noodles and
generic boxes of macaroni & cheese?

Is that when a band decides that they don't want to
have to worry about working day jobs anymore as
telemarketers or short order cooks or petroleum
 transferral technicians?

Is that when a band gets a video on MTV and wants to
get popular enough that they can pay back the money
that they owe their record company for studio time,
promotion, booking, touring, and other expenses so
that they can begin to pay their bills again?

Is that when a band begins to gain the appreciation
and respect they deserve as an excellent group of
musicians instead of simply being relegated to the
best kept secret list for the elitest yearnings of a
 few hundred scenesters?

I think if people spent as much time SUPPORTING a band
with their time and money as they do worrying about a
band's indie cred quotient, then every worthy group
wouldn't have to go hungry or even break up to find
work that pays for housing, clothing, and sustenance.

Kids who watch MTV are worried about bands selling
 out?
