You can call Colin a bitch, and he very well may be, but he is definately
right. You're not fucking with UP anymore...and their desperately
understaffed operation, you're fucking with epic, who have teams of lawyers
dedicated to beating the crap out of people who mess with their copyrights.
UP was understanding of the boots and the MP3's, Epic will not care. They
won't tell you to "cease and desist" They'll go to your ISP tell them your
violating your term of service agreement and then *poof* everything is gone.
They wont return your files, they wont refund your money, they'll just deny
you access to it, and that will be that. You're not etoy, you don't have
some legion of modest mouse fans who just can't wait to launch a denial of
service attack against epic, not that epic has anything to deny. Anyone who
helps with putting up the MP3's will meet with the same fate. it has
happened before, and it will happen again. I would also think twice about
giving the government a reason to enact some "cyber gang" legislation which
would severly limit the ability of groups to congregate online, especially
if its just to hear some life shateringly wonderful album two months early.
Colin, for whatever his reason, was remaining vauge and unspecific, a
picture of Willie Wonka saying "No, stop, please don't" comes to mind. I
have my own guesses as to his motivation..but maybe I just think the worst
of people.
