I went to a Pearl Jam show at the Palace of Auburn Hills on August 23, 1999, and I watched the opening band.  It was Cheap Trick.  And Pearl Jam put on a pretty good show.  I bought a T-shirt for $20, which isn't too of a price if you consider that most bands don't sell shirts for less than $15.  And if anyone remembers, Eddie Vedder "rebelled" or whatever you want to call it against TicketMaster because the prices were too much.

So I don't think Pearl Jam is that bad.  They're not corporate rock like people try to make them out to be.

I do admit that Pearl Jam is not as good of a band as they were when they began, but a lot of bands go downhill.  I still like them, though.  Not necessarily for what they are, but for what they used to be.  And they haven't "sold out."  They do sell out venues, though, which makes more publicity for the opening band.  I don't know if this rumor about Modest Mouse opening for them is true or not, but it will be good for them if it is true.  Nobody should expect Modest Mouse to be happy with being little-known.  Most bands want to become famous.  This might be their ticket there.

Subject: [MMouse]: MM + PJ= cringe, but life goes on

Frank Black opened a few dates tor PJ last year too, so its pretty lame but not a terminal move. Anyway, nobody that goes to those shows even watches the opening band, theyre too busy talking mom into buying the $40 T-shirts and pondering the artistic impact of No Doubt. "Modest Who, I heard the lead singer is Eddies little brother and that Jeremy was about him!"
