Isaac: Kind of a long story. He's this guy my dad grew up with. Eric: Montana Isaac: He lives in Montana and his name's Cowboy Dan. Jason: Is he a Freeman? Isaac: um, no, he's a, he's actually, he owns himself a little ranch and I don't know, i don't know what to say. he used to be a speed freak. like crazy speed freak, and now he's just a paranoid old guy. Jason: And he's gonna be immortalized with a song. Isaac: Well, yeah. That's transcribed from a radio interview/performance i recorded circa March 1997, right before the band released the Fruit that Ate Itself. While it's obvious that the band was sometimes messing around with the interviewer, Isaac played that pretty straight. . .so I would assume that someone at least lent themselves to the creation of Cowboy Dan. of course, as with all mouse songs, i imagine isaac is speaking somewhat of concerns that are tied to his own thinking and life. . .cowboy dan's talk of the city does fit nicely with the other "concrete" themes prevalent in other songs (in fact, isaac speaks of it in said-interview, specifically pertaining to Issaquah) star
