9.9.99 was the date. There I was, new to Boston. My first show at the Middle East. I went to see Godspeed You Black Emperor! based on a tip from my friend. I had never heard them. It remains the most amazing thing I had ever seen in my life. The middle east upstairs was packed, and NO ONE would speak. Everyone was dead silent, completely abosrbed in what was going on around them. There were about 11 people on stage, and 3 projectors broadcast images of people and streets and anything else in black and white onto a screen behind them. It was a wall of sound.
