Though I'm not exactly a Joyce fanatic, I totally agree with this statement. With Thomas Pynchon especially, If you 'get it', its no longer merely "difficult literature", but something you enjoy struggling with. The same could be said for David Foster Wallace, but everyone pretends to get it because its hip. I think more people have lied about finishing "infinite Jest" than any other book of the twentieth century.
