Both Modest Mouse and Mars Accelerator have been playing around Seattle for
years now (often together) so I guess its inevitable that there would be
some similarities. I don't think they sound too similar, but you can still
pick up on the parallels. I just thought it was odd when
_Frankfurt_Telephonics_ came out since at the time it was a different than
most of what was coming out of the NW, stylistically at least. I remember at
the time Modest Mouse was pretty stripped down with no effects and Mars
Accelerator would come out with all these homemade effects and tape loops in
pedal boards and people would wince. So _The_Moon_and_Anarctica_ was
something of a surprise to me, since its quite a stretch in a lot of ways
from _LCW_. Maybe its just because they had four months to record _The M&A_,
so they decided to polish it up some.
By the way I originally bought the vinyl version of _Frankfurt_ by MA and
later found out that the CD version is 15 minutes longer with a few extra
pop songs between a some experimental stuff. It may or may not be worth it
to you but I actually found the CD to sound a lot better than the vinyul
version... unlike their first album _I_Am_The_South_Pole_ which sounds great
on vinyl. MA has a website at www.geocities.com/~7zark7/ It's pretty
outdated and hard to navigate but the design is nice. Sorry to sound like
such spammer. I've just always thought it was weird that no one's heard of
MA. ~ audrey

Thanks Audrey.
I never heard Mars Accelerator before today (via mp3 at CDNOW), and now I'm
hooked. I anxiously await my vinyl in the mail so I can decide what Moon &
Antartica may hve "borrowed" from them.
