First off, your honest opinion is always appreciated...(by me). I enjoy this sort of stuff. Anyways, you could look at Ween as clownish, but I look at Ween as having a sense of humor about themselves, about music, and about life. One of my other true heroes, Frank Zappa was the same way.. he just couldn't understand people who didn't have a sense of humor about things or about music. He was VERY SERIOUS about his music, as is Ween. Yes, initially, I was confused by Spinal Menengitus or Mr. Would You Please Help My Pony? But after listening to their albums they really set in and you realize there are not many bands out there like Ween who can have a sense of humor and not make every song (or show) an outlet for pain and suffering like so many bands do these days... and still have a good grasp of basic song-writing and musician ship (and yes, Shomanship). Ween is the link between classic rock and new rock.. if you have a large appreciation for Zeppelin, the Beatles, Floyd, Etc. (like I do) then maybe it's easier to like Ween. They are one of the only bands I listen to that can sing a Beatlesesque song without me hating it and them. Yes, sometimes they do some things that I don't like.. Bananas and Blow a Jimmy Buffetesque tune I really hate, and a lot of other songs that I just don't care for. But I dig 80% of what they do and it's all so different. Anyways, maybe someone reading this thread has no opinion on Ween at all or hasn't listened to them. If not, I reccomend getting Chocolate and Cheese from a friend. It's probably the best jumping off or jumping in point. Ok, I guess we can close the thread on Ween unless someone wants to continue.. p.s. This list is great... because people talk about things other than MM and nobody gives a rat's ass. I haven't said "rat's ass" in a coon's age. ----- I would have to be counted among the ones whom don't like and/or appreciate Ween. I saw them in Seattle for the first time a few weeks ago (on the guest list). They were like seeing a bad movie or bad art. We gave it a chance and then left. To me, they are like some cheesy vaudeville style of superficial humor (shallow stand-up). The over-flocked showmanship is a bit much. But hey, I walk out of alot of shows (and films). I prefer the stage presence of BTS or MM (whom I have seen many times and enjoy the unpretenious unpolishedness). I would rather laugh (darkly) at the conjuring of poetic writing than trite clownishness. Deborah
