Has Jason artificially resuscitated the dead horse?

good.

MTV is all about stereotypes regardless of ethnicity.
That's why they always have an ignorant "cracker"
amongst the white cast members, one or two blacks, and
a homosexual male or female on the Real World [and
Road Rules to a lesser extent].

I'm only really familiar with the "Puck and Pedro"
real world and the one with the aspiring redneck
country star, John [the days of wine and cable].
Rachel and Pedro were part of the Real World hispanic
experiment. Pedro was not only hispanic, not only
gay, but also HIV positive. That's a pretty tall
order for the hispanic pilot project. Rachel really
tried hard to be a good latina, but fumbled when she
attempted to pronounce "Pedro" in Spanish [try it.
it's not easy for beginners]. Ultimately she was just
another white girl, and a boring one at that. Pedro
was just too damn whiney. I don't think anyone really
liked him, but they were afraid to say it. [I'm
Hispanic, BTW].

The folks at MTV want conflict, especially of the
race/culture/religion/sex varieties. Somehow,
hispanics don't fit into their little formula. I
don't think the "vato loco" low rider stereotype is
something they would be willing try out since the vast
majority of the viewers [including me] could not
identify. So we are stuck with the "angry black male"
or "playa", the cracker farm girl/boy from Nebraska
[or a Mormon], and an individual of the gay
persuasion.

Who was the guy on Road Rules with the dreads that was
always pouting and crying? Andre? What a piece of
work that guy was. I think he got it on with the
cracker farm girl. Or at least it was implied. Well
done, Andre.

Does anybody remember the State on MTV? They had a
skit about a sitcom called "A Jew, an Italian, and a
Red-headed Gay" making fun of TV's perpetuation of
stereotypes [one of only a handful of amusing things
those guys did. Kids in the Hall is my favorite].
