embperl and html in sql problems (fixed msg)

I'm trying to display a scalar [+ $var +], now the row in the database has
HTML code in it but the HTML doesn't get rendered by the browser. What am I
doing wrong? I read about &lt; &gt; and \< but it's not helping.
