I think a lot of that convenience is built into the Java
straightjacket, but I will admit that, in a broad production system,
I'd probably be more willing to wear that straightjacket to make sure I
didn't bring the server down. Java is built for safety. I may not
like it, but it's valid. I just prefer Perl.
Still, (mod_)perl advocacy should provide more and better (mod_)perl
tools. Both languages are evolving; Larry's putting Unicode and
Threads into the next Perl, right? Java regex's are improving, yes? We
advocate (I will still support Java and Python and x,y,&z, but mostly
Perl) to build our resource base. A bigger, better, cleaner, easier
pool of tools means a bigger, better, cleaner, easier language, and the
cycle goes 'round.
