Not even beginning - INSTALL HELP

I have Apache 1.3.12 running on a RedHat 7.0 box with perl, v5.6.0 built for
i386-linux
I went to install mod_perl-1.25:
When I did:
perl Makefile.PL
I've got a:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

What should I do next? I could not even begin!
