It sounds to me like you have a mod_perl server running on
a high port, and a regular server running on port 80. So,
you need to install the ./site/eg directory into the
DocumentRoot of your high port mod_perl server, whereever
that is, and access it through the right port, or path.
You might have a ProxyPass configured on the low port
server for things like /perl to forward to the backend
server. The 2 server setup is a good one for mod_perl,
so I'd stick with it for performance reasons, once you
get past this sticking point.
If I didn't make any sense, tell me & I'll try to explain
a bit better. Check out your *.conf files for the Port
and Listen directives to see where your mod_perl server
is running.
