I maybe asking alot of questions on this list over the next couple of
weeks. I assure you that I am using TFM to the best of my abilities.
Soon, I will be adept at searching for my answers; but, in the interim,
please, accept my apologies for my -- short lived -- ignorance ;>

No worries, try to do your best to find the answers in the copious docs at perl.apache.org (hint: use the search) and if you still have questions you are very welcome to ask them. Just try to include all the relevant information that can help us understanding your questions. e.g. I couldn't understand what was your confusion about, until you explained in detail what you did and what you saw.

If you are for a long run with mod_perl you may consider to get these books:
http://perl.apache.org/docs/offsite/books.html#Learn_mod_perl
they cover more than perl.apache.org does and they are more oriented for a step by step learning and reference use.
