Absolutely if you're not going to use threads, don't compil them in.
Make sure the apache-perl package includes at least mod_perl 2.0.0
Debian stable doesn't really support mod_perl2
apache-perl is:
apache 1.3.34
mod_perl 1.29.0.2
perl 5.8.4
etc.
libapache2-mod-perl2
apache2 2.0.50
mod_perl 1.999.21
perl 5.8.4
but beware that v 1.999.21 is BEFORE the great namespace shenanigans,
and there is NO stable libapache2-mod-apreq2
There were hints some time ago (Sept?) that backports might be a friend
for mod_perl2, but that was a rumour that has not yet come to fruition -
in fact, backports has only just moved to backports for Sarge/stable.
So its roll-your-own time!
