my advice (apologies if you know this, i'm just copy pasting from an
older email)
make sure devtools is installed
use the built-in perl - its easier
build apache2 from scratch - don't use the osx one
build modperl from scratch. make sure you link against the apache2
you built - not the osx one
build expat from scratch if you need any libxml stuff
