I'm assuming you have a need for Apache/mod_perl 1.x and aren't
using Apache/mod_perl 2.x on purpose here.
If the installed Apache doesn't support mod_so, you'll need to
recompile it with mod_so support and/or recompile it with
mod_perl included statically. In this situation you can't
just "add in" mod_perl to your httpd.
My suggestion would be to ignore the installed Apache, and
build a new one from scratch following the installation
instructions on the mod_perl site and use that.
