Well, it works on Linux. Fails miserably on FreeBSD, 502 all the time.
Any other results?

Cool. I'll test this patch here. I've got a really worst case test setup (on OS X you set up proxy *per interface* so all apps use it for the given protocols. I'm sure that's part of why I see problems when Netscape and plain Jane IE work fine.
