I checked my original patch, and that changed it to HTTP/1.1 - must have
got lost somewhere.

The 1.3 proxy does not support keepalives on the backend (the 2.0 proxy
does), however it negotiates this on each connection using the HTTP/1.1
compliant Connection: close header.
