That's certainly not true! Being from Chicago (aren't you?) I'm sure you've
been taught about the big huzza made in Skokie (in the 70's I think?) when
the Klan wanted to march? The Klan, as a matter of fact, had no intentions
of marching, they just wanted to apply for the permit to do so. They got
just what they wanted; the permit, extended coverage in the media, and a
place in the history books... and they certainly were not laughed out of
town... Jewish community was instead bearing arms and preparing to *shoot*
them out of town.
I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss that as powerless!
