On the market yesterday, me and my housemate spotted Eddie J's 'Body & Soul'
album on cd. We weren't disappointed. We only bought it because we knew it
was the only way you could get hold of 'sally'. But the rest of the album's
ace. Especially his VOCAL version of Davis' 'So What' with the lyrics
something like 'And Coltrane he walked off the stage,
                       That's what everyone was saying..'
          Superb,
Second in favour at the moment only behind Davis' Kind Of
Blue, which I'd been promising myself for ages, but finally bought it on cd
the other day(in the right key, since previous recordings have been slightly
out of tune due to recording inaccuracies) It really is my fave album ever.
It wasn't the first time I'd heard it, but now that I've got a copy of it it
hasn't come off my stereo(apart from this morning when I 'borrowed' that
Eddie Jefferson after my housemate had gone out!) And since I'm doing my
dissertation on the influence of the jazz age on beat poetry, I think it'll
put my head in the right mindset.
