have a look in the two monthly mini magazines (mini world and mini magazine,
if you haven't already done so), for that money you should get a fairly
clean one but you'll probably need to be willing to do some work on it
yourself if you want one in forecourt condition. a word of warning; 60's
minis are beautiful to look at, but they're an absolute pile of shite
otherwise, there's loads of things you need to be aware of and to look for
(rotten subframes being the most famous, but the list is endless), and also,
there's a lot of fake coopers out there. be sure to buy a copy of the book
'the complete mini' by rees, as it not only helps you to avoid the problems
i've mentioned (there's a chapter dedicated to buying) but has some rather
cracking pictures in it as well. if i were you, i'd go for a modern one...
much better cars and look virtually identical, vintage cars can be a
bottomless cash pit. i got an L reg for three grand and it's a cracker.
