I just realized I made a HUGE blooper..I said AUSTIN is one of the less conservative places in DALLAS..I meant TEXAS, I don't know why I did that, probably cuz I had just emailed my friend in Dallas. At any rate, Misa, you are partly right, and partly wrong. There really aren't that many fratboys that hang in Northampton, it's not really a Fratboy type of place..to many "fags and hippies" (Comment overheard) and there isn't really quite the hardcore scene as the goofballs who run Pearl St. would have you believe. If theres any sort of Hardcore show there it's usually UMass kids and Springfield types who come from what I've scene. You are right about the "ska kids" though..tons of em, I should know, I was one when I went to school there a year ago, and I still like the music, though I'm not as fanatical as i was back then.
