Not at all - although I'll admit it's something I rarely agree with
people on - Tears of a Clown is fairly comfortably my least favourite
"classic" 60's track.  Not that that's because of either a dislike of
Smokey, or of well know and popular tunes.  Just pulling from his
Greatest Hits I'd rather listen to Tracks of My Tears, I Second That
Emotion & Going to a Go-Go several times each rather than hearing the
first couple of bars of Tears of A Clown (which really are like nails on
a blackboard for me).

And as far as the Beat go, again a great band with a very strong body of
songs - which is why a cover version of a track I find irritating to
start with is unlikely to be among my favourites.
