I have to disagree with your definition of a moped.
The name "moped" is derived from 
"MOtor" and "PEDal" (just like "SPiced+" hAM"= SPAM)
or a bicycle that you can pedal or drive.
Pretty kookie huh? It gets stranger yet: Not all
mopeds have pedals! The name merely referers 
to anything that looks like a bicycle that has a motor
attached to it. They just happen to be 50cc's
because if you have a "true" moped, and for some
unknown reason decide to use the pedal function 
(wich nobody ever did), you dont want to be pushing
the weight of a 1000cc motor around town,
would you?

Just in case you dont yet feel like shooting me for
going on about such a pointless subject,
I had and rode a 50 special. It was actually alot of
fun to ride down alleys & such. But the novelty
wore off in a few days, and then I got a dog.
