I swore I wasn't going to post on this topic, but.....I flippin' hate cell
phones! I suppose if you really need one for work, well actually Fuck you,
get back to your desk where you belong! I have seen these stupid things
transform normally polite people into complete troglodytes. A few weeks ago a
friend of mine phoned me and I was horrified to discover he was calling to
chat from the bus. I said "You see all those people looking at you?" "Um,
yes" "Well they're all convinced you're a total asshole."
The problem is that everybody thinks that their insipid, banal bullshit is
fascinating and we all want to hear it: "Yeah, I'll be in the office in,
like, 2 minutes", "OK, I'm in vegetables, what do we need?' "It's in the spin
cycle now, I should be home in a few" "Yeah, I'm on the bus, let's go over
the presentation once more". What I do is, when some jerk is subjecting me
to his or her side of a conversation, I point and say really loudly "Hey,
Your phone doesn't have any wires!" in a dumb guy voice and then I just keep
repeating it. And let's not even get into the way people drive when they're
talking on the things-it is astounding. Personally, I'm pretty glad they give
people brain cancer. And there is nothing wrong at all with listening to a
Walkman. That is all.
