There were so many new faces, and many good tunes. Even with all the drama,
everything turned out great. I hope it good birthday Ben!
Friday nite, Sloan played at the Metro (Chicago). Maybe I just need to hear
more of their music, but I was not very impressed. They got a good turnout
and the opening band (Flashing Lights) were pretty cool. Anyone else think
the show stunk?

Erm, yes. I wasn't that pleased with their new set. They played more of their
newer material which has a completely different vibe.
Navy Blues was a wonderfully produced album, high-energy, very tight
instrumentation and no loose harmonies.
I found that the newer material didn't have the same appeal. The transition
that Sloan makes from album to album isn't all that smooth.
Their earlier efforts were very light & poppy. Not tooo much rock.
Navy Blues was really Wingsish in the bass, the guitar was very Townsend, the
keys were very Lennon - very dirivitave, but a whole lotta rock. This newer
material doesn't have the same energy. I would recommend that you at least
hear Navy Blues.
I consider a staple - not so original, but all in all good! (having trouble
believing that I constructed a sentence with "all" & "good" right next to
eachother.)
God Bless Miss Misa,
Love,
Laura
Question - Is anyone else like me as far as when you go to shows, you have to
be upfront? Like I can't stand not seeing them actually play... I found
myself separating myself from the clan because I insisted on being in front.
( I think the fact that I'm really short has something to do w/it. )
