Had a fun Friday night crawling the bars of Leeds with Mr.Ellis, where we got the information that The Sugarman Three will be back in the UK in February and will be playing the Jazz Cafe in London on Feb 3rd as a double-headliner with The Three Deuces. All the threes. Same gig should be happening the night before in Leeds, most likely at The Atrium. Eventually ended up at 'Mojo Working' at The Wardrobe. Due to political wrangling between venue and the Dig! people, it basically wasn't what was advertised (Stax, Vegas Grind, funky rock and Rocksteady), but it turned out to be a wholly enjoyable set from some guy from Manchester connected with Twisted Nerve records - very much in the vein of Dean Rudland's 'Blue Juice' compilations in it's mix of 60s soul, jazz, and JB's style funk - much more 'commercial' than the backroom at BB, but less so, say, than Move On Up at the height of the night (i.e. James Brown but not the Jackson 5). Just remind me to stay away from bars that stock Makers Mark and accept debit cards. . .
