I must apologise if this has already been mentioned, as i haven't been
following the list for the last week but:

Last week i got sent Paolo Hewitt's new book 'The Sharper Word: A Mod
Anthology' and i finished reading it yesterday so i thought i'd comment.

Obviously i was a bit thrilled to get a book sent to me via post and i
was eager to get stuck into it as i sat on the train to work. The book
consists of some popular mod writings such as Tom Wolfes 'Noon Day
Underground', a chapter from 'Quant by Quant', Kevin Pearces famous
'Something beginning with O', a chapter from 'Absoulute Beginners' and
others as well as some more contemporary writings on the sixties mod
scene such as a chapter out of Alan Fletchers last book and stuff from
Irish Jack.

All in all, i'd say this is a good book for those who have not read all
this stuff already, but in other ways it's just a lazy mod guide to all
the stuff most already know. (including numerous extracts from Richard
Barnes 'Mods' book).

It mixes journalism with sociological studies such as the work of
Stanley Cohen, Dick Hebridge etc. It is all word and somewhat a well put
together collection, and worthy of a read to those who may not have come
across this stuff before.

For those interested, the book came out on the 6th of December, and is
published by Helter Skelter Publishing (4 Denmark street, London, WC2H
8LL) and it costs 12.99 (ISBN: 1-900924-10-2)

If anyone wants a more detailed review i will e-mail them one
personally.

Tinx!
