Everyone.. I just joined the list so I am getting a gist of exactly what is
discussed on the list. I must say many of witty responses are well thought
out and excellent reading entertainment. Then again, we have a couple that
need to rethink some of their policies.
I guess my main question, which is directed to all the English Mod purists,
is this..
What would you do if you had your way? Say if we all (americans,
britpopers, indie rockers) just left with our heads in our hands pouting
endlessly from rejection. "Marty the Mod won't let me hang out with him.
Sniff Sniff, how will I ever get birds, Sniff sniff. No one will let me in
their scooter club, sniff sniff" ;)
Will you all get together and have a big scooter rally. Brag about how you
are the true mods. Hang out and watch Quadraphenia 8 zillion times and see
if you can act like the actors. Listen to your purist MOD music? Hmm,
this could start to get a bit boring I think. The way I see it you
surround yourself with essentually the superficial aspects of being a mod.
As if you need all of the mod-pop culture to give you some sort of
identity. This identity is only a partial part to the equation.
As an american who has never claimed to be a Mod until discovering that
many of my beliefs and morals were essentially "modesque" prior to even
knowing really what a fucking mod was. I have always believed the Mod
concepts and ideas are a way of living. A way of thought. A way of doing
things. Its a manifesto to live by, not purely a fashion statement to
define myself. Although the fashion does tell the people around me
something.. Its not reasons for being a mod. Whats the difference between
a mod in a suit and my dad in a suit. Nothing, unless you got some
intelligents words, thoughts, and idea behind that suit. A suit doesn't
make a mod, more or less it is our way of defining a mod to the public.
Now don't take me as a party pooper here. I can understand the fun in
wearing suits and scooting around. But just because you look a certain
way, act certain way, and are from a certain country doesn't make you any
more mod then I am. If you really think about it.. if those are your
number one priorities for being a mod. You are more of a follower then
anything. Worst of all, thats the exact thing we as mods have always stood
against.
My two cents on the matter.
