Don't let the tabloid "unsolicited" testimonials fool you: outside of his
modslist persona, Dan Geddes supports more groups, DJs, and regular clubs
than most of the characters on the "scene" here in the SF-Bay Area. Of
course, I will admit to being biased, as I also count him as a good friend.
The accompanying Sean Cavanaugh comment was simply ugly and deserves nothing
more said than that. Gee, I do hope that makes me one of this notorious
group of roving nerds that act like stars on the modslist and mock shaggy
regular people in East Bay bars.

For the record: the Cafe du Nord never had a called or even so-called "mod"
night. They were running a regular soul night on Thursday nights, initially
starting with a focus on Northern Soul and eventually bringing in DJs such
as those from Bardot-a-Go-Go. The night is no longer in existence due to A)
the booking agent (who was REALLY supportive of the night) left the Cafe du
Nord and B) it was poorly promoted AND attended. Whether the latter can be
attributed to the selection of music, DJs, and bands at the club or to just
the general apathy that seems to be the accepted norm here in San Francisco,
is anyone's guess.

To the best of my knowledge, Popscene SF, has NEVER advertised itself as
being a "mod" club - although it frequently promotes itself using moddy
imagery. It is one of the few places in the City that is 18 & over (rather
than 21 & over, of course) and so caters to a younger crowd - the music
played there reflects this. It can be fun, so long as you walk through the
door with an appropriate attitude (just ask Katrina) as previously
suggested.

Cheers,
Nick
