Hello,
Here`s a story for you, bit long, but stick with it.
Firstly here`s a quote from "This Is Mod Volume 1", regarding The
Circles:
"There was no doubting they were Mods, the band posed on the sleeve in
parkas, one of the members astride a Lambretta."
Anyway, the other day at work, one guy at work brought in for another
workmate (both metal fans) a copy of issue one of "Kerrang". It was
around at lunchtime so I had a thumb through it. It was dated 1981, and
had an up and coming section of promising metal bands. Well, a band name
caught my eye, "Split Beaver" !! Had to read it. Here`s a bit from the
article (I had to photocopy !).....
".....featuring Keith "The Mod" Allen on drums. Mr Allen, as his
nickname indicates, used to prefer Lambrettas to Suzukis. He once "beat
the skins" for a Mod outfit called The Circles, but has now, we`re
assured, seen the light and is growing his hair as fast as he can. The
first single, "Savage/Hounds Of Hell" is out now.
Which got me thinking. Whatever happened to all the failed revivalist
bands then ? Did they all join metal acts ? Or change careers entirely ?
Is this the most bizarre change of career or are there worse ?? I`d be
interested to know.......
Cheers,
David W.
