Hi Mods,

I know many of you received a informational e-mail from Esosoft or
Topica.com regarding the new mailing list procedures and protocol, but I
know Brian is out of town, and there seems to be some general bewilderment
regarding the list serve switch to Topica. I thought it might be helpful to
share what little I know about it. If you want to change your list
preferences (i.e., digest, no digest, no mail, unsubscribing, etc.) OR have
access to reading the Modslist via their website (without having to use your
e-mail at all) the following info I hope will be helpful.

I went to http://www.topica.com and signed up as a member. It's free and
easy to do. You have to complete the confirmation process which involves
nothing more than replying to an e-mail they send you. You'll pick a name
and password. (It's been two days and thus far I've received no spam either
- I checked the "Don't send me updates/info" boxes - so they seem to be good
about that).

Once you're registered you can go to "your lists" and do a search on
Modslist. A link to its Topica FAQ will appear and you can "Add" modslist
to "Your lists". This way, the next time you log onto Topica.com with your
name and password, a link to Modslist, (with the number of new messages
since the last time you checked it right next to it), will appear on the
page. Hit the link, and there will be all the Modslist messages from the
last 2 or 3 days listed. You can sort them by date, thread, or author, and
there are links to older archived dates too.

Hit the link for 'edit list preferences' and a new page will pop up
containing "subscription options" for your editing - (what e-mail addresses
to send list messages to, vacation hold, nomail, digest, individual
messages) and a link to "Unsubscribe". It seems like a lot to do in order
to unsubscribe yourself from this new list but so far it's the only way I
know of. Please, if anyone else has discovered a magical shortcut for this
process, enlighten those who have been sending 'unsubscribe' messages to the
list to no avail - and to the annoyance of everyone else.

Like I said in my last post, I find this method of mailing list
'manangement' a lot easier, quicker and more user-friendly than majordomo!
I hope this helps some. I'm no Web expert, but did a bit of exploring and
wanted to share what I found.

Thanks and I hope everyone has had great holidays and even better New
Year's!

Miss Becky
