I have to say I feel some what very lucky indeed.
I first tried to have a mod style hair cut at the local woman's salon where
my mother and sister regularly go.
Upon describing what I wanted they looked at me gone and one woman looked
over and said, 'Oasisy'. No I firmly replied and in the end I ended up
going home with something half Beatley. Not what I really wanted.
My mother suggested finding a Mod Barbers.
I just laughed in her face proclaiming how in the hell would we ever expect
to find a mod barbers in West Yorkshire?
How ever to my greatest disbelieve several weeks later I drove an
alternative way home from work and their hanging outside a shop from a
distance I saw a target with some writing.
I couldn't believe my eyes! As I got closer I slowed right down to see that
at the side of the road in Birkenshaw near Bradford, not forgetting that
this is the north of England there was this Barbers called 'The Changing
Man' splattered with mod imagery upon its signs.
I was eating my own words at the time I can tell you.
I have been going there for ages now well over a year and have become well
acquainted with the barber Sean who knows exactly how we want our hair
cutting.
I don't even tell him how I want it anymore he just snips away and I go home
happy.
Inside his shop there are lovely pictures to view whilst we wait listening
to rare Northern soul or perhaps even Paul Weller.

I have noticed that he as advertised in the 'On Target' Scooterist magazine
on several occasions and I would recommend anyone living in the Yorkshire
area to take a trip to him!
I know of the stress of trying to get your hair cut right when everyone
around you are women's salons or the barbers don't even have a pair of
scissors in sight, they just use bloody electric hair trimmers.
The best bit is he is really reasonable, I always come home with change from
a fiver.

i spent years and years being unhappy with my hair, and getting very
average, (and bland) short cuts, in the interest of neatness and
simplicity.. however, ihave begun going to a woman who works out of
a salon
connected to her house..you make a private apppointment with her,
and she
will do what you ask for with a minimum of suggestions.. also, she
remembers you.. i brought a picture of what i wanted and she did the
best
she could with my hair type.. she has even begun straightening it
for me..
yes its all very pricey, however, im finding its worth it.. i
actually look
FORWARD to getting my hair done now, where as before i dreaded it,
and just
wanted to get it over with....

so, to make a long story short, (if you can afford it), i would look
for
someone who does private appointments away from the usual salon
atmosphere...
