" 10 Midwest American mods travel to Canada for the Millennium"

Happy new year fellow modslisters! For those of you wondering how we fared,
the Chicago/ Minneapolis-St.Paul/ St. Louis mods successfully managed to get
ready for New Year's Eve in a small hotel room in Toronto. (after a 9 hour
ride and only a slight interrogation at the border "No, we're not a rock
band." "No, there is no reason that we all have the same haircut.") Imagine 4
girls simultaneously using the mirror in a microscopic bathroom (curling iron
cords tangled up, with those in front crouched down and those in the back on
their toes, hairspray and powder in the air…it was a make-up war zone as
anyone who attempted to enter the room was bound to get spritzed and
powdered!) Meanwhile one person is showering, several others mill about
trying to find a stray shoe or trousers, and another coolly stands squashed
in a corner biding his time for an open spot to dress. To our host's credit,
we did have other rooms available to us (but we did not know this at the
time!) An hour and a half later we all emerged; coifed and polished, ready to
ring in the new year! We were even presented with a large American flag for
our grand entrance into the party -after all it is important that we uphold
our pretentious American reputation, of course!) Despite our large flag, all
the kind Canadians we met were welcoming and hospitable. We had a lovely time
dancing til the wee hours of the morning (to the tunes of our very own dj's
Benjamin and Aret) and were happily pleased with the favorable exchange rate
and taking in the city on New Year's day. And now I can finally say I have
been to Canada (as its expected of you if you live so terribly close).

Not only did we have a nice excursion out of town for the holiday, but we
discovered the merits of traveling with 10 people:
-with that many people, someone is guaranteed to have anything you might have
forgotten: hairspray, aspirin, bobby pins, etc…
- all group expensed are easily divisible, just move the decimal point over
(no tedious messing with doing math)
- its exceptionally cheap to rent a large spacious vehicle and fuel it,
leaving more spending money for later
- there is never a lack of interesting conversation

one of the ten,
Jessika
